What is Positive Psychology?
Positive psychology is the scientific study of human flourishing and well-being. Unlike traditional psychology, which often focuses on diagnosing and treating mental illness, positive psychology shifts its attention to what makes life worth living and how people can cultivate more happiness, fulfilment and success.
Founded by psychologist Martin Seligman in the late 1990s, positive psychology explores questions like:
- How can individuals build strengths that have been scientifically-proven to improve wellbeing, such as gratitude, optimism, and creativity?
- What factors contribute to a meaningful and satisfying life?
- How can we foster positive relationships, achieve our goals, and maintain a sense of purpose?
At its core, positive psychology is about helping individuals move from simply surviving to thriving. It’s about cultivating mental fitness through practices that enhance well-being, such as focusing on strengths, fostering positive emotions, building resilience, and creating more meaningful connections.
As a positive psychologist, my aim with my clients is always to move them forwards. To help them do more of what makes them happy, while working on the core underlying patterns and programming of the subconscious that might be holding them back from doing so.
Why Positive Psychology and Hypnosis Work So Well Together
Positive psychology and hypnosis are a powerful combination for enhancing mental well-being and creating lasting change. While positive psychology focuses on cultivating strengths, optimism, and resilience, hypnosis taps into the subconscious mind to reshape thought patterns and behaviours that may be holding you back.
Together, they form a holistic approach to personal growth and transformation:
- Access to the Subconscious Mind: Hypnosis helps you bypass conscious barriers and dive into the subconscious mind, where many limiting beliefs and negative thought patterns reside. Positive psychology then provides the tools to replace these patterns with empowering, positive ones, reinforcing personal strengths and well-being.
- Amplifying Positive Change: Positive psychology promotes practices like gratitude, optimism, and goal-setting. When these are integrated into hypnosis sessions, they can be deeply ingrained at a subconscious level, leading to faster, more lasting results.
- Building Resilience and Mental Fitness: Hypnosis can calm the mind and reduce stress, which complements positive psychology’s focus on building resilience and mental fitness. Together, they help clients develop a strong foundation for managing life’s challenges while maintaining balance and well-being.
By combining these approaches, clients can unlock their full potential, break through subconscious barriers, and create sustainable, positive change in both their personal and professional lives.
