A little bit about me

That’s me and my ragdoll cat, Oshax, up there. I’m a total animal lover, and while neither he nor my other cat, Rocky, can be trusted enough to come to work with me, you may well meet my Mini Schnauzer/Poodle cross Moriarty.

I’ve been passionate and committed to my work helping people live happier, more fulfilled lives, for more than 13 years now.

I used to have a practice on London’s Harley Street, but I moved out to the Essex countryside near Colchester and now work there and offer hypnotherapy online.

The human experience fascinates me and I feel very lucky to work in a sector that I can lose hours immersing myself in for fun. There’s never enough time to read all the books, watch all the videos, go on all the courses that I would love to.

I’m also really passionate about the potential for psychedelics as a therapy for mental health and a tool for improving wellbeing. My MSc. research project studied the health benefits of psychedelic mushrooms on retreat attendees in Holland. This is another area of interest that you can’t shut me up about if you start me on it, and I’m very happy to talk with you about it if you wanted to know more.

Alongside work and my animals, I’m also the mum of a teenage boy, I enjoy painting and being creative, reading graphic novels and anything by Kurt Vonnegut, playing computer games with my boy, watching horror films and trashy dating shows.

My hypnotherapy story

I became a hypnotherapist because hypnotherapy worked for me. When I was four months pregnant, I kept hearing about the potential for a ‘pain-free’ birth using hypnosis.

I was sceptical.

I planned to book myself in for an elective Cesarean. Because of fear, I was willing to be heavily anaesthetised, cut open, have my son handed to me while I lay half-paralysed on a hospital bed and face a fortnight of recovery for no medically necessary reason rather than try giving birth the way that my body was designed to. Fast forward five months, and I’m having my baby – without any drugs. I was so relaxed and calm that the midwife wanted to send me home when I first turned up at the birthing unit! I was laughing and joking with my partner and the staff, and I was excited about meeting my son – free from fear and free from pain.

I achieved this through hypnosis.

Through hypnosis I rid myself of the fears I had about childbirth. I learned how to control the level of pain I felt and how I responded to that pain. I learned how to be in the best emotional, mental and physical state for my body to do what it was designed to do naturally.

I learned that this hypnosis business was powerful stuff.

After that, I easily lost the weight I had put on during pregnancy and breastfeeding using hypnosis techniques. Then I began to read all I could about hypnosis and hypnotherapy.

The more I read…

The more I read, the more I felt excited about the power hypnotherapy has to help people improve their lives. I began to consider that one day I could help people too – as a hypnotherapist.

I researched training courses, and I chose the best available. I trained with the incredible hypnotherapist Trevor Silvester at the Government-approved Quest Institute in London. Very early on in the course, I started to put the techniques I was learning into practice. I experienced first-hand the feeling of intense fulfilment that comes from helping people to change behaviours and beliefs that they have had for their entire lives. Changes that allowed them to start to live in a way they never thought could be possible. Half-way through the course I followed my heart and decided to permanently leave my career as a magazine editor.

I made a decision to commit myself to helping people experience their own personal transformation through Cognitive Hypnotherapy.
